A bit of catching up

I've gone through my camera roll and there are tons of little glimpses from the last couple of months. Here are a few;
March 25: I come by Nyhavn on a grey afternoon. I do understand why all tourists gasp when they see this, it must be the most postcard perfect place in Copenhagen.
April 1: We make plans to go to Berlin.
April 2: I go to the cinema with my brother to watch a French film from 1965, and the houses in front of the Cinemateket are lovely as ever, especially in spring evening light.
April 15: I've spent the night in my father's apartment in Østerbro. On my way out to get breakfast I pass by this little lady. It makes me think of my childhood in Paris.
April 17: I'm in Vesterbro and snap these colourful houses on my way.
April 25: There is a sharp spring light in my living room.
May 5: The summer starts to arrive.
After a movie on May 8th, I look up and am overwhelmed by that special magic that spring fills the city with. It gets me every year, and I fall even more in love with Copenhagen.
The same evening I walk down Elmegade in Nørrebro.
May 9: Tine invites over for dinner in her garden. We drink bubbles and talk shamelessly about private stuff and laugh so hard. The neighbours are in for a treat...
May 13t: We're in Aarhus and take in the view of the city from Salling Rooftop and I walk down memory lane on Mejlgade where I lived from 2008-2009. How long ago it suddenly is...
May 19: We eat at Apollo Bar just off Nyhavn. The food is great - tartare and burrata - but it's still not summer yet so we get too cold and head inside for wine.
I love this photo of ever beautiful Iben.
The next day is my niece's baptism, and Sølve and Fredericke are by far the coolest dressed guests (they always are).
May 23: I have morning coffee and a vulgar Danish at the Corner Café with Sheila from Canada. She's in Denmark over a few weeks and it's always nice to catch up.
On my way home, I cross the harbour.
May 26: We watch Klaudia and Jean-Luc get married in a little garden in Frederiksberg. I love those girls, we've known each other for 15 years now and we've had so many great experiences together. Witnessing one of us get married was definitely one of them!
May 28: I do my first tourist tour with an American family. I show them around Copenhagen and we're fortunate to have amazing weather and it's such a fun experience!
When we come home from Porto on June 4th, there's the most pastel of views from my father's apartment. I love the beginning of summer!
June 7: We eat sushi outside.
June 9: It's melting hot and I meet Chris for lunch at Auto.
June 10: I bike down Ryesgade after having visited a friend in her new apartment. It's a part of Copenhagen I rarely go to for some reason.
June 12: I go on a spontaneous roadtrip with Tine. We head up the coast and blast Céline Dion, Disney-songs and ABBA loudly from the car and sing along. It's one of my favourite things. When we get back to Copenhagen, I walk by a mirror on my way home and snap a rare selfie.
These days, I spend a lot of time working in my house. This is my view from the table where I write and whenever I'm stuck in a sentence, I look up and see my plants and all the colours and they make me so happy. I love living here.

January so far

It's such a cliché, but my god, time is flying by! Yesterday, as I was unlocking my bike, I heard birds singing and it dawned on me that I hadn't heard that sound for months. It also reminded me that spring will be here before I know it, and it was a comforting thought in the middle of the icy January air. So, February is around the corner, and here's what I've been doing in January so far;
The month began with Friday night pizzas at Behov (Rentemestervej 94, NV) - such a great place!
Two days later, I had brunch at my uncle's new apartment in Vesterbro. He got married over the holidays so the apartment is the first home for the new couple and what a place!
Later, I went for a walk with Tine. The air was cool but the sky was blue and every other Copenhagener was walking around the parks, just as we were.

We stopped by Grundtvigs Kirke and took in the view.
The sun also shone in my little place, and I love it even more with the light.
One very early morning I met Chris for breakfast downtown. The sky was so delicate as I passed Nyhavn.
Then I went to Jutland for a couple of days and passed by Aarhus to say hi to NP and Anna.
I picked up a fresh supply of coffee beans at my favourite Aarhus spot, La Cabra (Graven 20).
Just look at those two! Any day now, Anna will give birth to a little girl, my niece. I can't wait to meet this new member of the family!
On Saturday, my father and his wife hosted their annual family Christmas lunch and we drank champagne, snaps, drinks and too much wine... NP and Anna couldn't be there, so the rest of us took a mandatory band photo and sent it to Aarhus.
Yesterday, I took a long walk around Nørrebro with a former colleague and her daughter.
The afternoon was spent at KEA where Anna is studying jewellery design. I took photos of her pieces and it was so much fun to have a little photoshoot. Now, bring on the rest of January!

Autumn is here

I don't think it's ever been so long between posts here. For that I am sorry and I hope you still pop by once in a while. Here, things are getting autumnal. I am contemplating my life and wondering whether I am going to forever be restless or if a settled life is actually what I want. I am figuring things out, thinking about threads in my life, wondering about what can happen if I let it. I am also doing other things, and a few of them are here:
In late August, I visited my grandparents' house in north Jutland for the last time. It was a strange thing; they have lived in that little town for 50 years and it's been the single constant place in my life. And I have been thinking a lot about it lately, how strange it is that we won't be going back there anymore. Now they live in southern Sealand and while it's great to be closer to them, I will miss our time by the golden fields and the far stretched plains. When I flew back to Copenhagen from Aalborg, I looked down on that scenery from above and couldn't help but feel a little sad.
In the beginning of September, I threw a housewarming. It was a good night and NP and Anna came all the way from Aarhus to be there. Despite having to catch a bus back home at 9 in the morning, they were the last to leave and I felt so grateful. And just look at those two!
My mom and youngest brother came by for a sleepover and we had brunch in the morning. So. Much. Cake!
Copenhagen was gracious with the light in September where summer finally came around for an Indian Summer. So needed.
In late September, I spent a day in London interviewing an Australian author and wandering around the city. That's when my 'crisis' started as I was suddenly reminded of how much I miss living outside Denmark. It sounds so spoiled but I miss the adventure and I feel as if my life is going nowhere and everything is the same everyday. First world problem I guess, but I haven't been quite happy since I came back.
Except for my apartment. How I love the light and the feeling of being at home.
This weekend I visited my mom in Jutland. I decided to go early and spend Friday in Aarhus. I saw friends for lunch and caught up and it was so great. In the afternoon, I met up with NP and Anna for a coffee before we took the train to Herning.
La Cabra is by far my favourite coffee pusher in Denmark. I wish they would open up a branch in Copenhagen!
On Saturday, we were supposed to go to Skagen as neither Anna nor Signe have ever been, but there was a marathon so we changed plans and went south to Ribe. I've never been there and what a beautiful little town. So quaint with little coloured houses and cobbled stones.
It rained and felt so autumnal. I can't really grasp that the light is disappearing more and more each day and that everything is so cold. I wish I were in a better mood and I could cope better. Have to do something to take my mind off things. Anyone willing to swap apartment with me for a weekend somewhere?
