Midsommer

Yesterday was the Danish midsummer, Sankthans. I celebrated with AnCa and her friends on a sort of beach in the industrial area of Nordhavn. Most of the night is lost in a haze but I do remember dancing around in the sand, losing my bag and finding it again, being very imbarassing and watching the sun come up over the water.
We started off grilling in Frederiksberg
Of course we made Moscow Mules.
The sky was beautiful at 6am when it was time to go home...

Le cœur au bout des doigts

Today has been surprisingly warm and sunny. The art director and I had lunch on the steps of the Botanical garden. We watched the kids playing around beneath our feet and discussed summer plans as the sun beamed down on our heads. Later, I met Mette for an ice coffee and a talk on the steps in front of an apartment building in Hørsholmsgade. We decided to make it a crazy summer. It'll be good.
It's a view like this that makes me happy to live here. Buildings in sun.

I Wanna Be Adored

I'm having a music crush these days. I discovered Raveonettes' (love them!) cover version of Stone Roses' 'I Wanna Be Adored' a while ago and fell in love immediately. Now, I've also fallen for the original song. It's so gloomy and young, it makes me think of hot summers in huge cities and magic nights with warm air and smiles. Give it a listen!

Week glimpses

The weekend's been busy. I was all over the place on Saturday covering the rockabilly event, and I didn't come home until 4 in the morning when I drove through the rainy city in a cab and almost forgot my phone in the car and had to run down the street after the driver to get it back... Sunday, I met with Kristiane, we went to see my brother's exhibition in his atelier and had dinner at Lyst. Later, I curled up in my bed and watched a movie before giving in to the sleep. Apparently I needed it so much it made me oversleep this morning making me late for work...
On Wednesday, I had dinner with Bettina. We were so full we decided to walk from Mitte to Østerbro for an ice cream.
Two scoops.... I'd say four. I only finished about 1/3.
On Friday, I went with the office to an award show at the city hall. I'd never been there before, but the building is beautiful. The magazine shamelessly didn't win anything, so we went out and got beers insted. At city hall, they served us the famous 'rådhuspandekager'. They weren't so impressive.
At city hall, the art director bought tickets for us to see the 'world clock'. Beautiful. It took them almost half a century to build it.
Sunday morning breakfast. One of my favourite things in the world.
Walked past Stefanskirken on my way to the atelier. I like that they're celebrating gay marriage like this. The colours - and statement - are beautiful.
The brother was so proud as he gave us a tour of his atelier, showing off his work and talking about all the dreams they have there. It was stunning.
At Lyst (Jægersborggade 56, Nørrebro), I had a chèvre chaud salad. I'm getting the hots for that dish!
Later, I could hear the score of the football match from the open window. Too bad, DK.
Today, we proofread the summer issue. It's going to be so great!
Later, I met AnCa for an ice coffee at Din Nye Ven (Sankt Peders Stræde 34, Kbh K) where we made exciting plans for the summer, and I got very jealous - she's going to Berlin tonight.

Masculine men and feminine ladies

Yesterday, the air around Ejby in Fyn was heavy with motoroil, Johnny Cash-tunes and hairspray. 250 rockabillies gathered to look at old cars, dance the air up under the polkadotted skirts - and celebrate their retro lifestyle. I was impressed and had a blast while circling around interviewing with my photographer. See more in the September issue of the magazine...
There was a race with the old cars - they didn't seem to care that the cars were actually old, so there were car parts scattered all over the place afterwards...
The men were masculine with their greasy hair, rough jeans and boots and leatherjackets. And the women were feminine with pencilskirts, flawless makeup and high hair.
I was invited to a grill party with some of the people, and we ate the somewhat overgrilled sausages while Johnny Cash played in the background.
When I wasn't driving in the back of a babyblue pickup truck, I tried sitting in a 1930 Chevrolet...
The sunset was overwhelming out there on the countryside...
One of the men passed out in the grass and was carried off by his friends...
