Paper Island

I'm doing a story for a magazine, and yesterday it brought me to the new food mekka in Copenhagen; Papirøen (Paper Island). Until a few months ago, the big industrial spaces on the tiny island were filled with rolls of paper used to print newspapers and magazines. Now, the space is filled with old containers and self-built wooden boxes inhabited by chefs and foodies making delicious street food. I feel Copenhagen has needed a space like that, and it was a great joy visiting, tasting and talking to the passionate people in their colourful kitchens. Plus, looking at the harbour is something truly wonderful. Papirøen is easily reached by bike through Christianshavn, by bus (9A) or by harbour buss (993). Especially the latter is a majestic way to arrive.
Before going into food mekka, I swung by Henrik Vibskov's new coffee bar, Den Plettede Gris (Trangravsvej 5, Papirøen) for a cortado. The place is decorated in true Vibskov style with interesting ornaments and details, and the coffee was good.
The old containers look so neat, especially this one with old white wooden windows attached to it.
They had covered an entire wall in old shells (!).
I took the harbour buss back to mainland, and I couldn't resist a quick selfie by the water.
Nyhavn was covered in tourists as usual, but there's still something about that stretch that gets me every time.

Elsinore revisited

Friday, I met up with the lovely Ida for a coffee at Kronborg Castle. Having been in Elsinore a lot lately, I needed to find a decent coffee spot, and I was surprised to find one within the walls of the old castle. Located in one of the old houses is Strandvejsristeriet, a roastery that uses all the great coffee techniques; chemex, aeropress, hario, and so on. We indulged in great coffee and sweet treats followed by a rainy hike around the quaint little town.
We could walk around on this model of Kronborg and its surrounding buildings. If I remember correctly, the coffee shop was in one of the long buildings on the right...
Strandvejsristeriet, Kronborg 12A, Elsinore.
Ida had chemex, while I had pour over. Sooo good.
The sky was pretty gloomy.
But luckily, rain makes spring trees seem almost fluorescent.
In town, we found a very nice antique store where I will spend all my non-existing money once I move into the city...
I don't know if it was pre-Eurovision euphoria, but the whole town was covered in flags. It looked good, though.

In the city

On Tuesday, I went to the Justin Timberlake concert semi spontaneously. Living in Stockholm, Chris couldn't make it, so I took her ticket - and what a night! It was my first major show concert like that, and I was very well entertained. I remembered my high school days with his old songs, and it was a blast singing along and watching the 50,000 people in the audience being swept away as well.
Mette and Iben joined me.
At one point, the front part of the stage drew away and he glided into the middle of the audience. Pretty rad.
Kristiane and I indulged in coffee and sweet treats in Torvehallerne on Monday when I came back from Stockholm.
On Thursday, I met up with the Montreal men for a long chat and drinks - we had so much to talk about that I forgot all about my camera... First, cava with Christoffer at Torvehallerne (it tasted as pink and good as it looks.)
On Friday, I had a sleepover at Tine's. It meant lots of giggles, candy and movies (great). Her view over the rooftops in Nordvest is pretty alright.
Saturday morning, she made me a lavish breakfast table.
Later, I met up with the lovely AnCa for an impromptu Eurovision night at Imperial.
We walked by Pumpehuset - they have free outdoor concerts over the summer, I'll definitely be checking out the programme as it was a pretty neat location.
Before watching Austria take the throne, we had Viatnemese street food at Lê-Lê.
And then we glammed up Imperial with glitter and champagne!

A weekend in Stockholm, part tre

Sunday meant gloomy weather, but we went out sailing anyway. Stockholm is situated in a cluster of islands called Skärgården, and after just 10 minutes on a boat means being in beautiful nature with tiny islands inhabited by those neat wooden houses. It both snowed, rained and shined during our trip to the island of Vaxholm, but it was a pretty great day nonetheless.
We had breakfast at Fabrique in Fridhelmsplan, a pretty good chain of bakeries. Again, we were powerless to the cardamom buns...
How idyllic can it be?!
I felt like walking directly into Astrid Lindgren's universe.
We quickly found our way down to the sweet Hembygdsgården where we had salmon treats outside to the sound of water licking the side of the house, and kids running around in the garden.
Afterwards, it was the big Swedish cake table (notice that huge layer cake!)
Model Chris.
Welcome!
On the way back to Stockholm, the sun was with us most of the time, which made a huge difference. What a great trip!
