I'm in Italy hanging out in my father's house, reading books, sipping coffee and ice water and enjoying the sun. On Monday we headed further south for the little appendix Gargano. We stayed on the tip in a little town called Vieste. It was made of white buildings and glistening turquoise water, and we ate sea food and had drinks beneath the moonlight. The next day, we took a boat trip to the caves surrounding the town; sailing into some of the caves was absolutely magical. Plus, it was refreshing to have wind in my face after the heat. The splashes of cool salty sea was alright, too. Hope you're enjoying the summer wherever you are!
I flew out of Copenhagen early early Sunday morning (6 am), and the view as we left the blue was nice. I love seeing the world from above, it's like looking at the master plan.
In Vieste, I stood in front of a wall with a nice view behind it.
Just look at that water!
The streets were small and narrow and I liked the maritime feel of the white walls.
Beautiful doors and a cool brother in the distance.
We had lunch at this little hideaway; it was basically just a restaurant in the alley.
AE climbing the streets.
Ah! Blue skies, white houses, palm trees.
He hates when I ask him to stand in front of a wall, but he put on a good smile.
Siblings in a mirrored door with a dress flying high.
This is Italy in a nutshell!
It's the Italians' holiday at the moment so we were basically the only ones on the boat tour not from Italy - or France. And everybody took pictures at the right moments.
Beauty in the water.
A rare selfie.
Thanks for having us, Vieste, what a lovely place!

A week just flew by
Next week is the last week at work and the last week in the apartment. I have lived here a year now, and I can't believe it went by so fast! It seems like only a month or two ago that it was autumn, and not much longer ago since it was summer... I guess I'm just going to wake up soon and be 50. I'm enjoying my last time here and also looking forward to things to come. First of all, Italy - I'm going down there on Sunday, and afterwards I look forward to freelancing and to buying a place if all goes well. But right now, I'm just enjoying everything.
I have bought so many books the last months! These four I bought last weekend, and I'm looking forward to reading them in Italy. The lady in the shop practically yelled after me as I left that I would love the Patti Smith-book...
Last Sunday, I met Sheila for a coffee at Central Hotel and Café (Tullinsgade 1, Vesterbro). It was all so beautiful; the hotel only has one room, and the café is tiny. We sat outside at the pretty tables, and the croissant and especially the biscuits took me right back to my childhood. Plus, it was just so pretty.
Look at that!
That car was cool!
People are on holiday, and while it can feel a little sad to be working in the summer, I also really like walking to work every morning. The streets are empty and quiet, and it feels like I have it all to myself. Just as lovely as it is in the morning, just as horrible it is walking back in the afternoon when you have to fight off the tourist hordes to get anywhere...
The other night, the light was pretty over Nørrebro.
And I took a selfie in a broken mirror. It's sort of becoming a thing I have...

Last night, K & C re-arranged everything in the apartment. He's moving in as I'm moving out, and so today we all woke up to a totally different looking place. But I kind of like the new arrangements, and it was nice having breakfast in the kitchen with a new view.

Lazy days
It's a strange time these days. I'm thinking a lot about things and as I'm moving out of the apartment in two weeks, and my temporary position at the newspaper comes to an end at the same time, I once again find myself in that place where the future is pretty open. I know I want to stay in Copenhagen (thought two seconds about the possibility of going somewhere else and couldn't deal with it) and get my own place - I've moved around 25 times in my 27 years, so I'm getting ready to actually create a base where I can live in my own stuff. Anyway, thoughts are flying and it's summer. Despite the sadness of having to say goodbye to a lot of amazing people at the newspaper, I'm really looking forward to a vacation soon.
Last weekend, I was home alone and spent a big part of Sunday on the balcony with F. Scott Fitzgerald's collected short stories. I've read them in Danish a few summers back and thought I'd try the real deal. They are so good! It was humid and overcast and I had made ice coffee to go along. Not too bad...
Hi!
Sunday night I met up with Chris for a walk and an ice cream. We tried the one at Brødflov in Frederiksberg (Falkoner Allé 34), but despite it being a cute place with some amazing looking cakes, I wasn't all too impressed with the ice cream...
We took a walk into Landbohøjskolens Have and looked around. She is now in the US on her holiday so we had some quality time before being apart for (too) many weeks.
On Monday night I met up with AnCa for a sip of ginger beer beneath the bridge at Kayak Bar (Børskaj 12, Indre By). I am so happy she's my friend!
I think it's bad planning to have put these huge exhaust pipes right in front of the legendary sign at Nørreport Station...
On Tuesday, I met Chris for a quick lunch at Torvehallerne.
Those letters!
Although it feels strange to be working this summer as everybody's off on holidays, I do love those walks to work in the morning when the city is all quiet and the sun is bright and promises a new exciting day. With coffee in hand, it is quite alright.
Today, I went into the city to pick up a few things. Came home with 4 books. (Just Kids by Patti Smith, As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, Howard's End by EM Forster, and The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje) Can't wait to read them this summer!
I like when nature takes over bricks and walls.

Summer in the city
It's been a while, but things here are good. Steady and good. The summer is ambivalent; last week it was so hot you could barely breathe, and yesterday it could just as well have been a March day. Here's what I've been up to;
Last week, I walked around the lakes with Klaudia one night. It was warm and we talked about men and life. The best.
Another night, I headed to Østerbro to have dinner on a beautiful table cloth with Sofie and Cecilie. Sofie has a roof terrace which provided a good breeze in the heat.
On Thursday, it rained and stormed and it was pretty depressing.
Yesterday, I had wine with Chris, Iben and Mette. On our way to another bar, we ran into Jonas and his friend. We ended up having shameless cocktails at Mexibar, and it was so much fun.
Today was slightly hungover, but it didn't matter because it's Esther's 1st birthday, and we gathered at her house in Østerbro to have cake and celebrate.

Last Friday, I had Chris over for dinner. We had wine on the balcony and talked for hours as the sun went down. The light was gorgeous and it was such a great way to spend a Friday. The next day, I went north to hang out with my dad. We got drunk and played games on the terrace while singing along to 60s songs. At 3 am we ran down to the sea and took a swim beneath the moon. It was magical! The next day was hell as it was 30 degrees and I was so hungover. But a great weekend despite Sunday's less interesting content.
My breakfast these days looks like this; toasted rye, avocado with lots of olive oil, salt, pepper and lemon juice, and a smiling egg. I usually have a coffee to go on the way to work. It's pretty alright. On Thursday, it rained and stormed and it was pretty depressing.
