Last night

We went out. Which, in retrospect, was probably not the best idea, since today I'm hungover and way way behind on school work. As in  w a y  behind. My night ended with a smoked meat poutine and a deep conversation about language and culture. Today; panic.

New York III: Glimpses

Buildings. The photo above is so dramatic, the light blasted through two buildings highlighting the fire escapes. And the smoke.
Around Ground Zero the buildings battle each other on who can reach the sky.
 SoHo.
The boys were happy because there was spring in the air (a big contrast to snowy Montreal...)
 Tough choice in the subway.
Central Park was brown and grey, but nonetheless you can't help skipping a heartbeat or two when standing there with the skyrises around you.
So New York (look at the beautiful coffee shop sign).

New York II: Brooklyn Bridge

One of the things I have wanted to do for years is to walk over Brooklyn Bridge. I can't imagine anything more breathtaking than watching Manhattan's skyline from up there. So naturally, I wasn't disappointed when I did it; walked from Brooklyn to Manhattan. And I was so lucky to have the sun shining down on everything.
While we waited for the subway to take us to the bridge, there was a little peak of Empire State Building. And some lovely buildings in the foreground, I might add.
I want to live there; beautiful windows and a view over Manhattan.
 Ah!
When you reach Manhattan, there's the financial district to the left with the Freedom Tower and huge buildings. On the right, there's a row of DDR-style buildings that look rather uninviting. What a strange contrast...

Avec les danois

I came home at 6,30 this morning. I love that. The night is semi-lost in a blur of drinks, taxis, bars, dancing and laughing. The Danes gathered at Kenneth's house where the master chef wined and dined us before unleashing the Danish party mentality. Later, we went to Royal Phoenix followed by a dark bar that made me think for a flash that I was back in Berlin. They (...) even smoked inside. Thanks for a blast!
Yum.
 Christoffer talking into air.
 Olly went shirtless.
 Killing on the dance floor.....

New York I: Roadtrip + Manhattan

Ah, New York. Beautiful, breathtaking New York. I must warn you that I have lots lots lots of photos to show - many of them with buildings, obviously. There are so many things to see in that city, and despite it being far too cold (we expected something else coming from icy Montréal), we walked around and managed to see quite a lot.
It took us about 10 hours to drive from Montreal to New York in our little rented Matrix car, and as soon as we crossed the border, we headed for McDonald's to pay our respects. Later, we stopped by a little gas station in the middle of the woods and mountains, and I felt like being in Twin Peaks for a short moment (before the owner of the shop kicked us out because he had work to do and couldn't be bothered waiting for us to decide what to buy...)
When we arrived in New York after a truly insane drive on the highway leading into Brooklyn (!), we had food in cozy Potlikker (338 Bedford Avenue, Williamsburg) before attempting to find a speakeasy nearby.
It turned out NOT to be a speakeasy but a comic bar, but the drinks were cheap and strong, and I giggled all the way home.

The next day we headed downtown and landed on Times Square.
 The boys were cool.
We walked around the Village trying to find a good thrift store and ended up by the water. It was icy and windy, so we caught refuge in a trendy café before ending up at a bar with a very drunk old bartender. I caught him peeing in the sink in the girls' bathroom - but at least he had the courtesy to make me a strong drink first...
