A Sunday in Vesterbro

While in Copenhagen, I usually spend my nights on AnCa's couch in the apartment in Vesterbro. It's like the old times in Berlin when we lived together. I so enjoy her company, and last Sunday, when the sun beamed down over Copenhagen, we walked around the neighbourhood, enjoying the drowsy mood and the city.
Chris was working at Siciliansk Is in Skydebanegade 3, so we sat down in the shade with an ice cream and looked at people passing by.
Since it's Copenhagen Jazz Festival this month, suddenly a group of guys appeared on the other side of the street and began to play. Unfortunately, it was quite avantgarde and noisy and weird, so we quickly fled the scene...
More friendly was Louise Hart who played out the window at the café with no name at Enghave Plads 6. People were ecstatic, and she was great. We were standing in the street trying not to be run down by a bus, but quite enjoyed the music.
I had an ice coffee at Kaffe (Istedgade 90, Vesterbro) with the crazy decor, while the street melted outside.
With a quick detour to Kihoskh (Sønder Boulevard 53, Vesterbro) to fetch Club Mate (uhmmm...) and to a used book shop (Store Verners Mini Antikvariat, Sundevedsgade 31, Vesterbro) we found ourselves back in AnCa's courtyard where we soaked up sun, had a long talk about boys, ate frøsnappere (a Danish thing) and read a little bit. I had picked up Fitzgerald's novels from the Jazz Age at the book shop, and I can't wait to embark on it.
What a great Sunday!

Days in Copenhagen

I can't believe it's been a month and a half since I left Montreal. Time goes by fast when you're nomading around the country. Although I'm beginning to long for my own place, to be able to unpack and get settled, to not having to always carry my stuff in a suitcase, spending nights here and there, I am still so much enjoying time in Copenhagen. I have missed so many people while six hours' time difference and lots of kilometres away.
A few weeks back I came by an impromptu fleamarket in Vesterbro. It's AnCa in the middle.
Vesterbro Torv is usually a little run-down, but it gets a nice gloss with a florist popping up.
Tine and I had amazing coffee at Kaf Bar 9 (Antonigade 9, Indre By). I admired the décor - rustic vintage galore - and then there was the sublimely orange entrance...
The other day, AnCa and I had lunch at BioMio (Halmtorvet 19, Vesterbro) - although the menu is good and full of organic pleasures, the prices are horrific. 135 DKK for an omelette.... Come on.
I spent a day with Chris; as she usually lives in London, we rarely see each other, so it was soooo good to be able to enjoy her for a whole day of walking and talking. We walked from Vesterbro to Mitte, had old school apple crumble by the water and went home with deli take out to watch Mad Men in the sofa. Truly needed.

A tournament

My father and his wife have a yearly football tournament. They invite their friends with kids, and then they play football all day, grill in the garden and drink lots of wine (naturally). This year, I was home and able to attend, so I took the train north for a day in the green fields. I didn't play (I'm as far from athletic as you can get), so I cheered and drank wine and laughed at the brothers.
The team; the youngest, his girlfriend, the middle, the eldest, and my father in front...
Sølve sported an impressive - and embarassing - mullet. Normally, he has his long hair in a tight bun on his head, but in the spirit of football (and because NP rolled up his shorts to imitate a 70s' football player), he decided to wear it long.
The boys and their big sister in black...

Sometime in June

I'm so behind on posting... The photos here are a few weeks old, they're from back when it rained in Copenhagen. With the last few days being overwhelmingly sunny, it quickly feels like it's been that way forever.
I spent an evening at Din Nye Ven (Sankt Peders Stræde 34, Indre By) with AnCa. Outside, the rain poured, and we had drinks and long talks inside.
I love this photo, and although it doesn't have anything to do with anything, I'm posting it anyways. My eldest little brother is educating himself to be a forestworker, and I love his tales of his study life; learning all the different kinds of trees, cutting hay manually, learning how to ride a horse, getting a driver's licence for a tractor, and the people he studies with. The other day he dressed up in his gear, and somehow it just fits him so well. I feel he's found his way, and he's so happy. So, so am I.

A Nørrebro walk

A few weeks ago I took an evening stroll with Mette. The day had been so warm and humid, and it was nice cooling down along with the long evening shades. The light was golden, and we had dinner on a some steps in Jægersborggade before walking through Assistensens Kirkegård, looking at the happy copenhageners who also enjoyed the evening.
Gorgeous Mette.

Days in Jutland

I just came back from a few days at my mother's. She moved to Jutland two years ago to live with her boyfriend. I spent the days lounging in the sofa, watching movies, reading magazines and sleeping in. In short; my camera spent the days buried in my suitcase, so there are only few photographic memories, and they come from my phone.
It's taken me a long time to adjust to the light evenings in Denmark. For some reason I forgot that it doesn't get dark here until 23 or so. God, I love Danish summerskies.
I made fresh summer rolls one night, and it was a big hit. At least for my mom and I - I will make that so much more from now on.
Before catching my train back to Copenhagen, my mom took me into town for a brunch. I had to swallow my sometimes pretty harsh words about the country. Wow, Herning really does have something great to offer - the brunch and the whole atmosphere at Aroma (Fonnesbechsgade 14, Herning) was amazing. Go go go if you're in the area!
